Assignment 5: Narrative Intervention PROJECT OBJECTIVES: The Narrative Intervention project is designed to emphasize on all the elements of art and principles of design, particularly working with the element of line to create symmetrical and asymmetrical balance, furthering your understanding of compositional organization. Use different types of lines to express given themes, feelings, moods, harmony, variety, and balance.
Texture & Mark Sketchbook E: PROJECT OBJECTIVESStudents will learn about mark making and texture. Developing observational drawing skills, composition, line, form, value, and organization.
Assignment 4: Perspective PROJECT OBJECTIVES: Students will engage with perspective: 1-point, 2-point, and 3-point perspective. Developing observational drawing skills, emulation, line quality, value development, and time management skills.
Sketchbook D: Collage: Unity, Variety, and Emphasis PROJECT OBJECTIVE: To enlarge / diminish the sizes of certain elements to aid the expression of an idea or as a means of creating emphasis or dominance. Learn about meaning-making through the juxtaposition of contrasting elements. Create confusion by changing scale, proportion, layering, pattern, and movement. Use found images of everyday/natural materials. Employ collage techniques to create compositions using concepts learned so far this semester; build a composition thinking about value first. Then edited the forms to create the meaning and feelings you want.
Assignment 3: Pattern PROJECT OBJECTIVES: Learning how to work with and create a motif tile to create a hand drawn pattern. Design an all-over pattern developed through observation. Introduce beginning concepts of color theory; i.e. mixing color and learning analogous and complementary color schemes.
Sketchbook C Design as Communication: Socio-Political Posters PROJECT OBJECTIVE: Building skills in written and visual communication, organization, critical thinking, and research. The project will introduce students to social issues in our contemporary society, visual problem solving and the historical relationship between visual art and politics.
Assignment 2: Master Copy with Grid Method & Color Pencil PROJECT OBJECTIVE: Students will engage with new materials such as color pencils, learn, and apply color theory. Developing and translating mark, color, and observational drawing skills. Students will develop critical thinking and writing skills throughout the assignment.
Sketchbook B: Shape, Value & Form:
PROJECT OBJECTIVE: To analyze the value system of an achromatic image of a person and simplify it to create a value composition. Goals are to practice and understand value and its relationship to shape.
Assignment 1: Lines PROJECT OBJECTIVE: Working with the element of line to create symmetrical and asymmetrical balance and to understand compositional organization. To use different types of lines to express given themes, feelings, moods, harmony, variety, and balance in a series of 6 abstract line drawings. PROJECT THEMES AND TOPICS: Balance, line, movement, arrangement, gestalt theory, composition, unity, variety, rhythm, positive/ negative space, and craft.
